A great result for Riverside although it was a battling performance. In the first 20 minutes we played the best football of the season, three in midfield and three attackers worked really well on a small pitch. Ben, Mads and Scott playing brilliantly passing between them and creating a hat full of early chances. Ben was first to score after an excellent passing move put him one on one with the keeper who he beat easily.

The second wasn?t long in coming and after a flick on from Scott, Mads was lethal closing in on the keeper.

The best passing of the match led to Mads cutting the ball back to Ben who slipped the shot just wide.

The start to the game was brilliant by Riverside and towards the end of the half Pollards had a lot more possession but could not create any clear cut chances.

Half time: Riverside 2 Pollards Inn 0

The second half was a different story with Pollards having much more possession but Riverside hitting them on the break.

Pollards pulled a goal back when a cross shot was saved by Pete but the onrushing forward put the ball in the net. Riverside rode their luck for a while with Pollards blasting over and testing Pete with a number of chances from which they probably should have scored.

Scott gave us the breathing space we needed with a good solo run and shot from a tight angle which beat the keeper on his near post.

Mads had a goal disallowed as the ball had apparently gone out before Ben?s cross, we hit the post, Polllards hit the bar, and Pollards did get a second late on but we managed to hold onto a good victory.

A great result from a solid team performance, the strikers linked up really well especially in the first 20 minutes when Riverside played some brilliant football.

Another draw for Riverside, we started today with key absentees - Mike was missing in defence and all four of our central midfielders were injured. Dispite the lack of numbers everyone who played gave their all and we were unlucky not to grab a win in the second half.

The scratch team was noticeable at the start of the game and a mistake in defence gave the ball to their striker who crossed for an easy tap in . A bad start but it woke us up and after a couple of half chances, Ben got the ball one on one, he took it past the keeper showing great composure to slot home.

We then conceded again with their striker toe poking the ball into the corner of the goal from the edge of the box. A silly mistake - the defence were missing Mike!

The equaliser wasn't long in coming, a corner from Graeme found Tony who out jumped is marker and planted a header into the corner.

Riverside then pressed and Maddocks got the goal he deserved again taking the ball around the keeper and scoring from a tight angle.

Half Time: PSV 2 Riverside 3

The second half didn't have the excitement of the first half. Robbie went off for Mark and right at the start of the half PSV won a free kick on the edge of the box. The PSV player hit the shot briiliantly and it ended up in the top corner.

We had a few chances in the second half and probably should have won the game, Ben almost latching on to a through ball but the keeper just getting there. Maddocks had a brilliant run and created space for Ben who brought a great save from their keeper - it wasn't to be!

Riverside continue their improvement this season, now unbeaten in three. A tough game next week with the return game against Euro Wirral.

Sandridge 2 - 2 Riverside Town League
Update scorers... Mike Walker, Ben Whawell
Team Sheet - Man of the Match: Mike Walker

The scoreline looks a very good one for Riverside against the in form third placed Sandridge. In truth Riverside were very unlucky not to gain a victory from this game.

The slope of the pitch meant that this was a game of two halves; Riverside had the slope in the first half and used it very well.

We created a load of chances and put a couple away. The first goal was the goal of season so far; Mike hitting a powerful shot from inside his own half that flew into the top corner ? an amazing goal.

Riverside continued to press with Ben being put through but he didn?t quite get the shot away on his left side. Both Ben and Scott looked dangerous and threatened to break away on a number of occasions.

Sandridge created a couple of chances with one shot straight at Pete and a header cleared off the line by Mike.

The second goal came in the last five minutes of the first half when Danni produced brilliant skill to turn away from two players and feed Ben who coolly took the ball around the keeper and slotted home from a narrow angle.

Half Time: Sandridge 0 Riverside 2

In the second half Sandridge came back into the game without really creating many chances. Pete had a couple of shots to tip over the bar but generally the defence and midfield were solid.

The turning point was with 10 minutes to go when a clearance from Mike was deflected into the corner of the net, a very lucky goal. This gave Sandridge new hope and they came forward to try and get the equalizer.

A long shot from thirty yards salvaged a point from a game they did not deserve anything from.

Another improved performance from Riverside and a shame we didn?t get the three points. We continue to surprise teams and hopefully we can continue to improve over the coming weeks.

Mike, the unbeaten club captain got man of the match, closely followed by Danni who had a very impressive game.

Riverside Town 3 - 1 Halfway House League
Update scorers... Mike Walker, Paul Coburn, Pete Thorning
Team Sheet - Man of the Match: Pete Thorning

A well deserved victory for Riverside, reward for some good performances over the past couple of weeks which have ended in defeats.

Riverside played well for the 90 minutes and surprised Halfway House with the quality of football. The first goal was scored by Mike from a free kick from the edge of the area after excellent tackling on the edge of the box by Danni.

Riverside continued to press in a half they had much the better of. The lead was doubled when Paul Coburn hit a shot from just outside the area which flew into the top corner giving the keeper no chance.

Halfway House then pulled a goal back which they did not deserve after Tony was caught in possession; the striker hit the ball across the box and Martin miss hit a clearance that ended up flying past Pete.

Riverside continued to press and had a couple of half chances and also hit the bar.

Half Time: Riverside 2 Halfway House 1

Halfway House came back into the game in this half without really troubling Pete. They had a lot of possession but Pete only had two saves to make in the whole game ? a great diving save in the first half to palm a long shot wide and a smart save readjusting for a deflection in the second half.

The third for Riverside came mid way through the half when we forced three or four corners in quick succession. Pete took the corner and using the wind forced the keeper to palm the ball into the top corner.

A great victory as the team continues to improve, bring on Sandridge next week.

A good victory for Riverside and a revenge scoreline for last week's defeat to PSV. The team was completely changed to last week with only 11 turning up on the day. Corlo came into the centre of defence and Pete into the centre of midfield.

This lack of experience together showed in the first half when we had the better chances but conceded a lot of possession. Pete was hardly tested when Dave scored a silly comical own goal sliding the ball past Pete into the corner of the net to put PSV 1-0 up.

There were a number of half chances to Riverside the best of which fell to Scott early on who was put clean through but just steered the ball wide of the mark.

Half time; PSV 1 Riverside 0

There was a frantic start to the second half with Mike crossing the ball into Dave who volleyed narrowly wide. PSV then put together their best move of the match which was finished off by their striker with a solid right foot shot.

We created some more half chances with Martin and Graeme looking lively on the wings. It was a ball through the middle that put Riverside back in the game, Mike supplied it with a brilliant defence splitting pass which Scott charged onto and slotted past the keeper.

Riverside had their tails up and it wasn't long until we equalised, Martin flying through the centre again to put the ball past an on rushing keeper.

Full time; PSV 2 Riverside 2

The game went to extra time which was great for our fitness; we actually looked stronger and fitter than the opposition for once. Extra time was a stale mate with few chances created by both sides, Paul and Pete in midfield worked hard breaking up their attacks and Mike was solid at the back.

Mike had a header from a corner which went narrowly wide. Dave produced a run picking up the ball on the half way line and taking it past four players to shot narrowly over from the edge of the 18 yard box.

The decisive goal was scored by Graeme breaking down the right and waiting for the keeper to commit himself before chipping in for the winner.

Next week we play the next round of the cup at home to Stanley Seaview.

A well deserved victory for Riverside to start off 2008. Once again a good squad of 14 players turned up to try and reverse the fortunes of Riverside.

The game did not start so well when the ref penalised Mike for a lunging tackle that clearly won the ball, however a penalty was given and Pete managed a great save to stop us going one down in the first 10 minutes.

The rest of the half did not see many chances created for either side. Paul Coburn had a shot which went over the bar and Mark created a couple of good opportunities but the crosses were a little too high for Scott in the centre.

Pete made one other excellent save from a deflected shot that he pushed onto the bar.

In difficult conditions 0-0 was a fair result at half time.

Half Time: The Plough 0 Riverside 0

Riverside increased the pressure in the second half and created more opportunities. Scott and Mark looked dangerous up front and half way through the half we managed to make the break through.

Martin got the ball on the right and was fouled just outside the area; however the ref played the advantage as the ball broke from the tackle and was crossed in from the wing for Mark to hit a half volley low into the bottom corner.

Graeme came on and looked very dangerous on the right, Mike Roberts came on up front and also caused problems, but it was the Plough who equalised after Pete spilled the ball the striker coolly finished round Mike Walker.

The Plough were reduced to 10 men following a serious of poor tackles by one of their strikers who got his second yellow of the game. Riverside again put on the pressure and a cross by Graeme was punched by their keeper only for Mark to rise above the defender and score with a header from a tight angle.

This was game Riverside deserved to win against a disorganised Plough team, a great start to 2008; hopefully we can build on this at PSV next week.

A crucial match at the bottom of the league, we had a solid team who performed very well and we deserved the victory.

The first 30 minutes were excellent Riverside put the pressure on Gladstone and created a number of chances. The first goal was well worked with a cross from the left being headed back across the area by Martin, headed again by Pete for Graham to coolly head home.

Graham then slotted Martin in on goal with a defence splitting pass, Martin shot passed the keeper to score only for the ref to give an incorrect offside decision.

However the second goal wasn?t long in coming, again Martin was involved breaking down the right, Martin shot for the keeper to save and the defender to miss hit his clearance straight to Dave who scored from 10 yards.

The rest of the first half was a battle with neither team creating any clear cut chances.

Half Time: Riverside 2 Gladstone 0

In the second half Riverside mainly defended hitting Gladstone on the break. Gladstone did have some half chances with Pete called on a few times, the closest a tip over from a 20 yard shot.

Riverside continued to hit Gladstone on the break and when Dave passed to release Graham down the right he squared the ball to Martin who couldn?t get his shot away on target and great opportunity missed. Martin was then put through one on one only for the keeper to make a good save.

Gladstone then got themselves back in the game with 10 minutes remaining, a shot from the edge of the area sneaking in low to Pete?s right.

Riverside sealed the points when the Gladstone keeper handled outside the area, Rob Green shot powerfully to give us the cushion we needed in the last five minutes.

A great win with all of the team playing well. John and Wardy were tight in midfield, Graeme and Martin looked dangerous up front and the defence was solid. The man of the match was between Paul Coburn and Rob Green, with Paul getting the final vote.
